  • Since these are not independent clauses, we shouldn’t use a comma before the but (“to increase human welfare” can’t stand on its own). What’s confusing here is the “to” which is both unnecessary and makes it sound like the latter might be an independent clause

    Suggestion: “The primary purpose of Small Technology is not to make a profit but increase human welfare.”

  • I think the “but” is starting to sound formal. How about leading with the good stuff:

    “The primary purpose of Small Technology is to increase human welfare, not to make a profit.”

    (“Not to make a profit” stands on its own.)
